**NEW** Research Test Series -

Are you ...

    looking for a new challenge?
    seeking a more in-depth examination of laboratory techniques & methodologies?
    willing to explore new testing areas?

Then you have found the right page.

How does a CTS Research Test differ from a CTS Proficiency Test?:

  • Research Tests are not designed to satisfy proficiency testing requirements;
  • Research Test participants are asked more detailed questions than typically found in a Proficiency Test;
  • A new Research Test is unveiled every six months on the CTS Web site;
  • Results of Research Tests are available only through electronic distribution to the test participants, whereas Proficiency Test results are published on this Web site and forwarded to accrediting agencies as appropriate;
  • A limited number of Research Test sample sets have been manufactured and, therefore, are available on a first come - first served basis;
  • and, Credit card orders only accepted for Research Tests (sorry, no exceptions!)

Test No. 590 - Glass Research - In Progress

This RTS offering provides the opportunity for expanded testing and reporting in glass analysis methodologies. Each sample set contains five Items: 2 known glass Items and 3 questioned glass Items. Each item is comprised of at least 2 fragments of glass, with the known Items' fragments being larger than the questioned Items' fragments.

The Data Reporting Sheet for this test contains a section to report on common origin between the known Items and the questioned Items, as well as the criteria used to make those determinations. The Data Sheet also includes areas for reporting each Item's glass properties and the methods used. The focus of this test is on the reporting of the methodologies used to determine glass properties, including Refractive Index, Density, Thickness, Color, Fluorescence and Chemical Composition.

In order to derive full benefit from this test, participants are encouraged to answer as many questions as possible. The results are shared only among participants and could greatly further knowledge of the subject.

Data Due Date: January 5, 2009
Summary Report: March 16, 2009
